Feel, look at and tilt the banknote to check it for authenticity.
Feel the banknote to check its paper and print quality (mechanical paper properties, intaglio print).
Cotton fiber paper is  more durable and resistant to wear than regular cellulose paper.
Look at the banknote and hold it up to the light to check the watermark, security thread and see-through register.
Tilt the banknote to check the images applied to the metalized foil (hologram/kinegram) and the elements printed in iridescent colour.
Thorough first and second degree checks of banknote security features are carried out by authentication devices (UV lamp, magnifier, IR camera, etc.).
