ANA KATARINA ZRINSKA
Croatian novelist and patriot

A novelist, patron of the arts, and patriot, Ana Katarina Zrinska, daughter of Uršula (née Inhofer) and Vuk II Krsto Frankopan Trzacki (1589-1652), commanding officer and warrior of the Krajina region, famous for his battles against the Turks, the Venetians and his fights against German dominance over Croatia. She was probably born in Bosiljevo around 1625. In 1641 she married Petar Zrinski and they had four children.

Following the collapse of the Zrinsko-Frankopan liberation movement, Katarina fell into disfavour with the Vienna Court and spent the rest of her life in martyrdom.

She died on November 16, 1673 in Graz.
