"JOHN PAUL II"
 
On the occasion of the visit of the Holy Father John Paul II to the Republic of Croatia on September 10 and 11, 1994, the Croatian National Bank  minted a commemorative gold coin in a denomination of 1000 kuna, and a commemorative silver coin in a denomination of 100 kuna. The commemorative gold and silver coins were made in special proof editions and put on sale on September 9, 1994.
