The CNB has today launched a new tender for the design of the national side of the Croatian 1 euro coin featuring the motif of a marten with a checkerboard in the background. The marten is depicted against a checkerboard background as the checkerboard is a recognisable feature of the coat of arms of the Republic of Croatia.

The design is required to include:

a) a two-dimensional design concept comprising the visual and textual elements of the main motif (a marten positioned against a checkerboard background) and the complete national side of the Croatian 1 euro coin; and

b) a three-dimensional model of the design concept made of plaster, plastics or another solid material.

The draft designs submitted for the tender will be assessed and selected by the Commission for the selection of the design of the national side of the Croatian 1 euro circulation coin featuring the motif of a marten with a checkerboard in the background (the jury).

The jury members are the following renowned Croatian artists and scholars: Petar Barišić, Tomislav Bilić, Tomislav Buntak, Dragan Damjanović, Tatijana Gareljić, Kažimir Hraste, Vatroslav Kuliš, Lazer Rok Lumezi and Ante Rašić

The jury of artists and experts will make an expert assessment of the professional and artistic value of the designs submitted.

The jury will analyse all draft design submissions and select a minimum of three and a maximum of five designs, without ranking them (final design selection). The jury will forward the selected designs with a written rationale for their selection to the Currency Committee and, upon invitation by the Committee, carry out a further analysis of the designs.

The jury is expected to make the final selection of the designs and submit them to the Currency Committee no later than Monday, 14 March 2022. Should the jury be unable to decide on the winning designs by the set deadline, the final design selection will be made by the Currency Committee.
