New silver coin issued to mark the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Archaeological Museum in Split

On 1 December 2020, the Croatian National Bank released for sale a commemorative silver coin to mark the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Archaeological Museum in Split, the oldest museum in the Republic of Croatia.

The silver coin’s denomination is 200 kuna, with items issued at a maximum of 2,000. The selling price of the new silver coin is HRK 520.00, VAT included.

The coin, designed by the sculpture Kuzma Kovačić, was minted by the Croatian Monetary Institute.

The central part of the obverse of the new silver coin features the complex of the Archaeological Museum in Split, while the central part of the reverse of the coin features the Good Shepherd Sarcophagus. The sarcophagus was found in mid-19th century at the site of Manastirine in Salona and dated to the beginning of the 4th century. It is kept at the Archaeological Museum in Split.
