The Croatian National Bank has issued a commemorative gold coin and a commemorative silver coin to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Josip Juraj Strossmayer (1815–2015), a renowned bishop of Đakovo and a patron of culture and arts, founder of major Croatian scientific and cultural institutions, who was especially renowned as a promoter of culture and cultural activist.
Minted in proof quality, the coins were released for sale on 23 June 2015.

The decision on the issue and sale was published in the Official Gazette No. 67/2015, 121/2016 and 109/2017.
The conceptual design of the commemorative 20 kuna gold coin is by the sculptor Stjepan Divković and the conceptual design of the commemorative 200 kuna silver coin is by the sculptor Matej Pašalić.
The issue was minted by the Croatian Mint.
