Relja Martić was born in Zagreb on 24 November 1954. He graduated from the Zagreb Faculty of Economics in 1978, and in the same year he got employed as a trainee with the Croatian National Bank. In 1987 he was appointed Head of the Credit and Monetary Research and Analysis Division in the Analysis Department, and in 1991 he became Director of that Department. In 1992 the Croatian Parliament appointed him CNB Vicegovernor and in March 1998 he was reappointed to the same office. Mr Martić was appointed Vicegovernor of the Croatian National Bank on 15 July 2000 pursuant to the decision of the Croatian Parliament. On 13 July 2006 the Croatian Parliament reappointed Vicegovernor Martić for a second six-year term of office.
Pursuant to the decision of the Croatian Parliament, Relja Martić assumed office as Deputy Governor of the Croatian National Bank on 17 July 2012.
Deputy Governor Martić is responsible for the co-ordination and management of affairs in the field of the Office of the Governor, Internal Audit Office and Central Banking Operations Area.
